New Lager Launch: Midwestern PIlsner

  • Golden Age Beer Company 337 East 8th Avenue Homestead, PA, 15120 United States (map)

The next stop on our Pilsner voyage takes us to the Midwest: home to lush fields of barley, corn and rice, as well as the home of our Head Brewer, Aaron Dahl. Our Midwestern Pilsner is a modern-adjunct Pilsner built upon Wisconsin-grown pilsner malt, corn and rice, then finished with extensive hopping with Michigan-grown “C” hops. We sourced the freshest Cascade, Centennial and Chinook hops from our friends Hop Head Farms, and used them during all stages of brewing. There's some magic in the Michigan terroir, and it lends an elevated fruity character to the hops grown there. Michigan Chinook is renowned for its distinct pineapple, grapefruit and citrus aromas that are much more juicy in character than the resinous, dank, and piney notes of Chinook grown in the Pacific Northwest. Additionally, Cascade and Centennial have long been some of Aaron’s favorite hops since he started brewing, and he used them here alongside Chinook for their lemon, floral, pine and what Aaron describes as “fruity pebble” character. We haven’t used these classic American hops yet at Golden Age given our focus on European influenced beer styles.  And we were excited to make them the focal point of this Pilsner.

Chef Jonah will be cooking up a few of his favorite Midwestern street foods to add on to our regular menu.
